Fertilizers for Motivation

Never let people define who you are. Or tell you what you should be doing or your goals in life. You are you. You create your own dreams and chase them because dreams can be a reality.

Comparing is a disease of the mind. Don't compare yourself to anyone. Just carry on at your own pace

You don't need attention and compliments to feel good about yourself. Being confident can make you happier. Happiness starts with you.

Only focus on your goals. Don't be distracted by others. The only way to succeed is to focus on yourself and what is best for you.

Be kind. Be nice. Think good of others.

It makes a difference,

a good one.

'Crazy Rich Asians'

" The moment someone tells you you're not good enough, is the moment you know you're better than them"

As you read from the title of this blog post, this movie 'Crazy Rich Asians' is out and I've been wanting to watch the movie ever since I watched the trailer for the very first time. However, there were two distinct reactions from SINGAPOREANS about the movie. Let me talk about mine first...

After watching the movie, I JUST FELL IN LOVE with the movie and the whole concept of it. I was very fascinated by all the visual edits and the background songs following it. It just gave me a type of feeling overall. I just LOVE it and it will be one of the best romantic comedy for me that has so much meaning. The reason why it was so meaningful was that of its storyline. I genuinely feel for Rachel Chu and I actually cried thrice in the movie because I am in her position currently. Nothing hurts more than a rejection especially by a group of people who are closely related to the person you love and wish to spend your whole life with. Not only that rejection hurts, but the reason why were you rejected. Someone telling you that you are not good enough is just an act of disrespect. No one ever deserves to be told that they are not good enough.

However, when Rachel Chu stood up and tried to "Pok Pok Bitch" her way through, I felt it. I felt the courage to "Pok Pok Bitch" my way through everything. And nothing more made me feel better. I know deep down that all this "you are not good enough" was just a labeling to someone you judged for the wrong reasons. And it was so similar that I was judged by my family history and all the bad things I've done when I am positively sure there were more good things to see of me and my life.

Another reaction that quite a number showed were disagreements on the movie because it did not really show what ASIANS mean. I find it really funny because this movie was just based on a novel and let's be very practical that it is actually easier to get an ALL CHINESE ASIAN cast. Even if you want to fit in other ethnicities, where would you place them in any scenes in the movie? Though I know where their thinking is coming from, I truly believe in being positive and just being happy and proud that AT LEAST the beauty of Singapore was shown in an American production. 'Crazy Rich Asian' thought me so many lessons - courage, never give up on your identity, fight for what you deserve and never let anyone tell you that you are not good enough for something. Thus, I pray that everyone will find their strength and courage to "Pok Pok Bitch" their way through the storms and all the negativity they have been getting. Prove to the people wrong and just be sincerely yourself. ♥
